UP Fuel Stations EV Charging 2025: 1,000+ Power Links, 12.5 Lakh EVs – State Leads India’s Clean Energy Drive
Uttar Pradesh is making a huge push to support electric vehicles (EVs). The big government oil companies—Indian Oil (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL)—have together applied for over 1,000 power connections to install EV charging stations at their fuel pumps. This is happening in cities, small towns, and along highways.
By the end of October 2025, 662 of these charging points already have electricity supply ready, thanks to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). This means the power lines are connected—though not all chargers are working yet. Out of 1,060 applications, 1,047 were accepted, and only 13 were rejected.
This is a big win for UP, which has one of the largest numbers of vehicles in India. Already, 12.5 lakh EVs are registered in the state—and experts say this number will grow 10 times to 1.25 crore by 2030. To make this possible, UP is building a strong charging network so no one worries about running out of battery.
Who Applied for Power? Oil Companies Lead the Way
| Oil Company | Applications | Role in UP |
|---|---|---|
| IOCL | 479 | Most active; plans in cities & highways |
| BPCL | 353 | Strong in highways and towns |
| HPCL | 228 | Focus on expressways |
| Total | 1,060 |
- IOCL is leading with the highest number of requests.
- BPCL and HPCL are also working fast to add chargers.
Where Are These Chargers Going? All Over UP
The power distribution companies (discoms) in UP are helping:
- Purvanchal (PuVVNL): 316 applications
- Dakshinanchal (DVVNL): 274
- Madhyanchal (MVVNL): 248
- Paschimanchal (PVVNL): 209
- Kanpur (KESCO): 7 (all from IOCL)
This means every part of UP—from east to west, north to south—will soon have EV charging points.
How Will Chargers Be Placed? A Smart Grid Plan
The Union Power Ministry has given clear rules:
- In Cities: One charging station in every 1 km x 1 km area.
- On Highways: One every 20 km.
- For Big Vehicles (Trucks, Buses): Fast chargers every 100 km on major roads.
This plan makes sure no EV driver is stuck without power, whether in a busy city or on a long trip.
What Kind of Chargers? Fast and Slow for All
- Power Levels: 30 kW (for bikes/scooters), 60 kW (for cars), 120 kW (for fast charging).
- Electricity Price: ₹7.64 per unit for commercial use.
- Said Kartikey Mishra, IOCL General Manager (Non-Fuel Revenue): “We are putting EV chargers at our existing fuel stations in cities, expressways, and national highways. The power will match the vehicle—small or big.”
IOCL’s Big Plan: Chargers Everywhere
IOCL has shared its roadmap:
- 12 in big cities (including 4 in Lucknow)
- 3 in medium cities
- 259 on national highways
- 105 on state highways
BPCL and HPCL have similar plans—so UP will soon have thousands of charging points.
UP’s EV Future: From 12.5 Lakh to 1.25 Crore
- Current EVs: 12.5 lakh (as of May 2025)
- By 2030: 10 times more → 1.25 crore
- Why UP Matters: It has one of the largest vehicle populations in India.
₹300 Crore Boost from Centre: PM E-Drive Scheme
The Ministry of Heavy Industries launched the PM E-Drive EVCI scheme to help build chargers. It gives:
- Money support (VGF) for fast and slow chargers
- Open to: State agencies, PSUs, private companies
- Focus: Highways, cities, public places, Tier-2 and Tier-3 towns
Indrajeet Singh, Director, UPNEDA, said:
“UP will get around ₹300 crore under this scheme. We are following rules for site selection, funding, technology, and monitoring to build a strong, reliable charging network.”
12,131 Fuel Stations Turning Green
| Company | Fuel Stations in UP |
|---|---|
| IOCL | 5,964 |
| BPCL | 3,146 |
| HPCL | 3,021 |
| Total | 12,131 |
These are not just petrol pumps anymore—they are becoming EV power stations.
State Government Plan: Chargers in Offices Too
- Next Step: Put chargers in government offices, public buildings, and parking lots.
- UP EV Policy: Being updated to support more charging and EV use.
Why This Matters: Clean Air, Less Oil, Happy Drivers
- Less Pollution: EVs mean cleaner air in cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, and Varanasi.
- Save Money: No petrol/diesel price hikes.
- Jobs: New charging stations create work.
- India’s Goal: 30% EVs by 2030—UP is helping lead.
Conclusion: UP is Charging Ahead!
Uttar Pradesh is not waiting—it is building the future. With over 1,000 power connections, 662 ready, 12.5 lakh EVs, and ₹300 crore in help, the state is turning fuel stations into EV hubs. By 2030, 1.25 crore EVs will run smoothly because UP made sure charging is easy, fast, and everywhere.
