TGSPDCL Ignites Telangana’s EV Revolution: Subsidized Charging Stations Nationwide

Hyderabad, October 21, 2025 – The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL) is accelerating the state’s green mobility drive with a special initiative to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across major cities, towns, and industrial hubs. Amid surging EV adoption for passenger, transport, and two/three-wheelers, Chairman and Managing Director Md. Musharraf Faruqui announced the program, integrated with the SASA app for seamless applications. Backed by PM E-DRIVE subsidies (70-100%), this effort promises a robust charging network, aligning with India’s 30% EV target by 2030.

Streamlined Setup: From App to Activation

Faruqui highlighted a dedicated SASA app module for EV PCS applications. “Entrepreneurs can apply easily; our assistant engineers will visit sites to gather GPS coordinates, location category, land ownership (private/government), public accessibility, parking area, and proximity to power networks,” he explained. This end-to-end support minimizes hurdles, fostering widespread installations.

Subsidies and Tariffs: Green Incentives Unleashed

Launched under PM E-DRIVE, the drive offers 70-100% subsidies for infrastructure based on site type. Benchmark costs range from ₹6.04 lakh (up to 50 kW) to ₹24 lakh (above 150 kW) for upstream setup, and ₹7.25 lakh (50 kW) to ₹11.68 lakh (100 kW) for EV supply equipment. TGERC’s tariffs—₹6 per unit energy and ₹100 per kVA/month fixed/demand—keep operations affordable.

On-Ground Action: Secretariat Site Visit

Faruqui, joined by Director (Operations) Narasimhulu, Metro Zone Chief Engineers Prabhakar, and Superintending Engineer Venkanna, inspected vehicle parking at the Telangana Secretariat for EV PCS feasibility. “We’re prioritizing high-traffic public spots,” he noted, signaling government-led adoption.

Collaborative Kickoff: Meeting with Operators

Last week, Faruqui convened with charge point operators alongside TREDCO’s Vice-Chairman and Managing Director V. Anila, mapping rollout strategies. This partnership ensures coordinated expansion, targeting 1,000+ stations by 2026.

Telangana’s EV Horizon

With India’s 6% EV penetration in 2025 and 1.2 million sales last year, TGSPDCL’s initiative supports PM E-DRIVE’s ₹10,000 crore for 72,000 chargers nationwide. “This drive will electrify Telangana’s roads, from urban commutes to industrial logistics,” Faruqui affirmed.

As EVs surge, TGSPDCL’s subsidized push isn’t just infrastructure—it’s the spark for a cleaner, connected tomorrow.
