Mahindra Fires Up India’s Highway EV Revolution: 180 kW Charge_IN Network Targets 1,000 Points by 2027—First Stations Go Live!
Mahindra has thrown down the gauntlet in India’s EV infrastructure race, launching the Charge_IN ultra-fast charging network with an ambitious plan to deploy 250 stations and over 1,000 charging points by the end of 2027. The rollout kicked off on November 25, 2025, with the inauguration of the first two stations at Hoskote (NH 75 Bengaluru-Chennai corridor) and Murthal (NH 44, just 50 km north of Delhi), as reported by Autocar Professional.
Each station packs two 180 kW dual-gun chargers capable of juicing four electric vehicles at once—delivering a blistering 20-to-80% charge in just 20 minutes for Mahindra’s latest eSUV lineup (BE 6, XEV 9e, XUV400, and future models). That translates to roughly 200–250 km of added range during a coffee break, making long-distance EV travel genuinely practical for the first time on Indian highways.
Highway-First Strategy with Creature Comforts
Unlike scattered urban chargers, Charge_IN stations are laser-focused on major national highway corridors and will be co-located with restaurants, cafes, and rest areas—turning pit stops into pleasant pauses rather than frantic hunts for plugs. Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive Division, summed it up:
“We are creating an accessible charging network for all EV users while building customer confidence in long-distance electric travel.”
Open to every brand (not just Mahindra), the network integrates seamlessly: Mahindra owners use the Me4U app, while others tap the dedicated Charge_IN by Mahindra app or popular third-party platforms. Mahindra customers already enjoy access to 34,000+ public chargers nationwide via Me4U—Charge_IN simply supercharges that ecosystem with true highway-speed capability.
The Bigger Picture: Closing the Infrastructure Gap
India’s public charging network has long been the Achilles’ heel of mass EV adoption, especially outside metros. With rivals like Tata Power, BPCL, and Zeon scaling up, Mahindra’s 180 kW push raises the bar—matching global benchmarks seen on Europe’s Ionity or China’s Xingxing networks. The timing aligns perfectly with the government’s ₹18,100 crore PM E-DRIVE scheme and the 2030 target of 30% EV penetration.
For Mahindra—now the No. 3 EV player with 22.6% market share—Charge_IN is both a defensive play (protecting its eSUV dominance) and an offensive weapon (attracting fleet operators and intercity travelers). Add the recently launched BE 6 and XEV 9e (both born-electric, 59–79 kWh packs, 500+ km claimed range), and Mahindra suddenly has the vehicles and the fuel stations to challenge Tata’s Nexon EV hegemony on long hauls.
As Autocar Pro concluded, this is “a significant step toward strengthening public EV charging infrastructure and accelerating electric vehicle adoption in India.”
From Delhi to Chennai and Kochi to Kolkata, the highway just went electric—and Mahindra is holding the plug.
