Chennai Goes Big on Electric Mobility
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has fast-tracked the city’s green transport revolution by identifying prime public spaces for the installation of nine brand-new EV charging stations, as reported by The Hindu. These stations will be set up on government land at high-footfall locations, making charging convenient for residents, tourists, and daily commuters alike.

- Mangal Lake Park, Ambattur
Fast, Reliable, and Ready Before Year-End
All nine stations are being developed by Relux Electric Private Limited in partnership with Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL). Each facility will occupy around 500 sq. ft. and offer simultaneous charging for two four-wheelers and three two-wheelers, including fast-charging capability for cars. The entire rollout is targeted for completion before December 2025.
First Step Toward 500 Stations Across Tamil Nadu
This Chennai project marks the first phase of Tamil Nadu’s ambitious plan to establish 500 EV charging stations statewide under the TNGECL–Relux Electric partnership, giving a massive boost to electric vehicle adoption.
A senior GCC official stated:
“Through this collaboration with Relux Electric and TNGECL, we aim to ensure convenient access to reliable EV charging points across Chennai’s key public spaces. This effort reflects the corporation’s ongoing commitment to building cleaner, energy-efficient urban infrastructure.”
