BYD Sealion 7 Premium Gets Pricier in 2026: Rs 50,000 Hike on Entry Variant
BYD India has announced a selective price revision for its premium electric SUV, the Sealion 7, effective January 1, 2026. The Premium rear-wheel-drive variant sees an increase of Rs 50,000, bringing its ex-showroom price to Rs 49.40 lakh from the previous Rs 48.90 lakh. The higher-spec Performance all-wheel-drive model remains unchanged at Rs 54.90 lakh, suggesting targeted adjustments rather than blanket hikes.
Customers who booked before December 31, 2025, will receive their vehicles at the original pricing, providing a brief window for those considering the Premium trim. Rajeev Chauhan, head of electric passenger vehicles business at BYD India, explained the move reflects “evolving cost dynamics” while continuing to deliver a competitive premium EV proposition. Investments in technology, safety enhancements, and expanding customer experience infrastructure were cited as contributing factors.
Since its launch in February 2025, the Sealion 7 has found strong traction, with over 2,300 units sold nationwide — a solid performance for a newcomer in the luxury electric crossover segment.

Competitive Positioning
The Sealion 7 targets the entry-luxury EV crossover space:
- BMW iX1 LWB: Above Rs 66 lakh
- Tesla Model Y: Rs 59.89–67.89 lakh
- Kia EV6: From ~Rs 60 lakh
- Hyundai Ioniq 5: From ~Rs 46 lakh
Even post-hike, the Premium variant undercuts most rivals significantly on price while offering comparable range and features.
Broader Context: India’s Premium EV Growth
The revision comes amid India’s EV market expansion—176,500 battery-electric passenger vehicles were sold in CY 2025, up 77% YoY. Rising component costs (batteries, semiconductors) and network investments pressure margins across brands.
BYD’s portfolio (eMax 7, Seal, and Atto 3) and 47 showrooms in 40 cities support sustained growth, with tier-2 expansion planned for 2026.
What This Means for Buyers
- Immediate savings: Book before year-end for the old price.
- Value retention: Sealion 7 remains compelling vs luxury rivals.
- Market signal: Minor hikes reflect confidence in demand.
For premium EV shoppers, the Sealion 7 continues offering strong bang-for-buck despite the adjustment.
